"Well" Check-Up

Well, she apparently looks more "well" than she
is.....

This morning Olivia and I embarked on what was
supposed to be her 12 month "well check-up." However,
things didn't quite go as planned.

To begin, Olivia began coughing in the car on the way to the
Dr. This was during the 8 am rush hour, mind you.
As she coughed and coughed, she began to gag. And then,
then, she began to projectile vomit all over the back of my
car (my company car, that is). As I said, all this took place during
rush hour.

I was just a bit panicked....I mean, this is a kid who has never
really been sick! AND, I am the biggest "sympathetic puker"
in the world. I was just as worried about me as I was about her.

Fortunately, we have friends who live in midtown who had not
yet left for work. Thank GOD Whitney answered her phone
because I spent a good 30 minutes at her place cleaning my
car, my child, and her disgusting car seat. Thank GOD that
Whitney's daughter had some clothes for Olivia to wear...I am
no longer in the habit of packing extras as they've never been needed.

Pat called the Dr. and told them why I was running late. When we
got there, 45 minutes later, Olivia seemed fine. In fact, we were really
shocked to learn that she has an ear infection....with zero symptoms.
The doc suspected there is nothing wrong with O's stomach and
she just triggered her gag reflex when she coughed somuch.
She then said we are so lucky that Olivia is such a healthy little
princess, prescribed her some antibiotics and said not to worry. She left
me with one final warning regarding this morning's puking incident:
"It won't be the last time!" Maybe not, but it will be the last time I feed
Olivia milk and bananas for breakfast for a while!

As you can see by Olivia's photo, she is doing quite well, in fact you cannot
even tell she is sick.

Here are her 12 month stats:
Length-31.25 inches=95th percentile
Weight-23 lbs (after puking, that is!)- 80th percentile
Overall health and development-A+++

pablo has puked in the car a few times.... and like you i never pack any extra clothes! one time i had to pull over and clean him up in target...and buy him a new outfit while i was at it.

btw, there is a 9-mos age difference b/w pablo and olivia... and only a 2-lbs weight difference!

I learned the hard way to always keep an extra outfit, bottle of water and a washcloth in the car. I used to carry those shout wipes in case they puked just because they help get rid of the smell. to this day I keep a full box of baby wipes in the console. The things boys can do with a ketchup packet......
